Besides its utilization as a biofertilizer on a variety of crops,Azolla can be used as an animal feed, a human food, a medicine, and a water purifier.Azolla has been used as “green manure” in several countries to fertilize rice paddies and to increase rice yields (van Hove and Lejeune, 2002). Azolla–Anabaena is capable of fixing nitrogen at higher rates than legumes and is able to growth successfully in waterlogged habitats having low level of nitrogen.
