Wise & Otherwise (Marathi, Paperback, Murty Sudha)
A compilation of endearing short stories based on the author’s actual experiences during her travels in India, which range from inspiring to melancholic, this book is designed to change your perspective on life.
Summary Of The Book
Wise And Otherwise (Marathi) consists of fifty stories that capture and highlight the diverse multitude of human emotions, narrated in a simple yet enchanting manner. The author travelled to remote villages and towns, and interacted with people from varied backgrounds, and her interactions with them formed the base of this book.
Each story is unique in that it covers a different facet of human nature. Ranging from a poignant narration of a woman who acknowledges an altruistic contributor on her deathbed, to the stark tale of an elderly person being forced to live in an old-age home after his son deserts him, and the inspiring narrative of a beggar who strives to provide relief for earthquake victims in his own small way, this book is an eye-opener and its brevity results in a refreshing read. Most of these are mainstream incidents that occur all the time, everywhere, and are cast aside by onlookers as normal humdrum happenings. Sudha Murty transforms them into narratives that readers can learn valuable lessons from.
Wise And Otherwise (Marathi), first published in 2002, has been very successful. Over 30,000 copies have been sold in India, and it has also been translated into various Indian languages.
