Perfect product!

Beautiful saree. Easy to drape. Worth the price. Colour is more towards a lavender tone, sort of like an onion skin shade. But very very pretty.

It elegantly drapes your body and brings out the grace and beauty in you. Sarees come in various materials, types and patterns which can complement your body type and make you look every bit of a model. Sarees are available in different fabrics which include silk, chiffon, georgette, cotton, net and more. If you want something that can add to your confidence and give you a sophisticated look, then pure bridal silk sarees in attractive colours is a luxury to indulge in.

Let’s take a quick look at the different types of silk, sarees made from silk, and how to drape them with perfection.

Different Types of Silk

Historically, there was a time when China and India together controlled a large portion of the global economy purely through the Silk Road that fueled the silk trade. In fact, evidence from archaeological digs shows that the Indus Valley Civilization was making and trading a form of silk that was cultivated from indigenous wild silkworms. By the time Asoka rose to power, there were specific centres for silk production and most of these centres added to the economy of his kingdom, which is why Asoka built roads and safe passages for traders of silk to kingdoms as far as Bactria and Persia.

By the time the Mughals stepped in, the art of silk weaving had matured exponentially. However, it was Akbar who ensured that silk was produced and weaved in more parts of India by transferring silk workers from Gujarat and other hubs to different royal workshops. In fact, these royal workshops created brocades for Muslim royalty all across the world including faraway countries such as Egypt, Syria, Turkey and so on. Under the Mughal rule, Punjab became the epicentre of silk production for the royals.

Today, there are four primary types of silk that are used to make silk sarees in India:

Assam Silk

Assam silk is a blanket term used for three different types of wild silk cloth materials that are produced with the help of indigenous wild silkworms. These different types of silks are white pat, golden muga, and warm eri, and they are primarily used to make Assamese mekhala-chaddar.

Banarasi Silk

It is estimated that Banaras became the epicentre for the production of sarees made of silk somewhere before the early 1500s. Banarasi silk saree is popularly known for its Mughal inspired Zari work and has become a part of the bridal ensemble.

Kanchipuram Silk

Kanchipuram silk sarees are popular all across the world because of their intricate threadwork. Most of these sarees also come with heavy zari work with more Indian motifs.

Mysore Silk

Mysore is responsible for the production of nearly 70% of India’s Mulberry silk. Sarees made of Mysore silk are more rustic and come with lighter zari work, which makes them ideal party wear.

India is home to other varieties of silk too. Today, silk is mixed with other materials to make soft silk sarees. And, cotton silk sarees are great examples of that. Such sarees are more breathable and lighter and much more suitable for formal or informal occasions such as office parties, festivals, and more.

Draping a Silk Saree

Our mothers can probably drape a silk saree with perfect pleats by themselves, but most of us would probably need another pair of hands to stabilize our handiwork. Sarees made of silk, in particular, are extremely difficult to discipline and hold together. So, here are a few tips on how you can drape a saree with enviable skill:

a.) Opt for a pure cotton petticoat. It will not only help you breathe but the coarser texture of cotton will help keep the saree in place.

b.) There are different types of pleat makers available in the market. They allow you to decide the width of your pleats and then help you make them with ease. Use such pleat makers to make uniform pleats and pin them up immediately.

c.) Wear your saree high enough to avoid stepping on your pleats. This requires some practice and ideally, you should wear your footwear before draping a saree.

So, the above-mentioned were a few tips on how you can make saree draping easier for yourself. Now, go ahead and order a saree today and turn heads wherever you go.

Things to Look for in a Silk Sarees

This quintessential ethnic wear can be worn to weddings, family functions and office parties. But it is important that you select a piece that makes you look beautiful as well as feel comfortable. There are few things that you should consider before buying a silk sarees and colour is one of them. Whether it is a bright traditional sarees hues like orange, pink, red or pastel shades like cream, sky blue and white. You can choose a colour that brings out your natural skin tone. Next, pay attention to the border detail. An elegant border design in golden, silver or a contrasting colour can make you look slim and tall.

How to Store and Maintain a Silk Saree

Silk sarees are the most prized possession in a woman’s wardrobe. The style and elegance that it gives you commands that you take special care of this century-old attire. Irrespective of whether you have been handed down that beautiful silk saree or have spent a fortune for that elegant nine-yard, silk sarees need special attention when you keep them away. A machine wash is a strict no-no for silk sarees. Always try to have them dry cleaned from a good place.

Ensure to wrap your silk sarees in a cotton/muslin cloth or newspaper before storing them away in your wardrobe. To be on the safer side, you can buy a saree bag to store them. A word of caution, avoid saree bags made of polyester. They are amazing to store sarees of other fibres, however, when it comes to silk, always opt for a cotton bag. This makes it easy for your silk saree to breathe, if not taken out on a frequent basis.
