Why is there a shipping charge for this item?

Sellers with Flipkart Assured waive off the delivery charge for Orders over Rs 500. For Orders under Rs 500, a nominal delivery charge is added per item.

Sellers without Flipkart Assured may or may not add a delivery charge to your Order. This is subject to Seller discretion.

What is the estimated delivery time?

Sellers generally procure and ship the items within the time specified on the product page. Business days exclude public holidays and Sundays.

Estimated delivery time depends on the following factors:

      • The Seller offering the product
      • Product's availability with the Seller
      • The destination to which you want the order shipped to and the Seller's location

Why does the delivery date not correspond to the delivery timeline of X-Y business days?

It is possible that the Seller or our courier partners observe a holiday between the day you placed your order and the date of delivery, which is based on the timelines shown on the product page. In this case, we add a day to the estimated date. Some courier partners and Sellers do not work on Sundays and this is factored in to the delivery dates.

What do the different tags like 'In Stock', 'Available' mean?

      'In Stock'

Products‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Available'

Products listed as ‘In Stock’ are readily available with seller.

      'Preorder' or 'Forthcoming'

The product is not released yet. You can however ‘book’ an order for this. Shipping happens only after the product launch.

      'Out of Stock'

Currently, the item is not available for sale. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know once it is available for purchase.

      'Imported'

Sometimes, items have to be sourced by Sellers from outside India. These items are mentioned as 'Imported' on the product page and can take at least 10 days or more to be delivered to you.

      'Back In Stock Soon'

The item is popular and is sold out. You can however 'book' an order for the product and it will be shipped according to the timelines mentioned by the Seller.

      'Temporarily Unavailable'

The product is currently out of stock and is not available for purchase. The product could to be in stock soon. Use the 'Notify Me' feature to know when it is available for purchase.

      'Permanently Discontinued'

This product is no longer available because it is obsolete and/or its production has been discontinued.

      'Out of Print'

This product is not available because it is no longer published and has been permanently discontinued.

Why does the estimated delivery time vary for each seller?

Delivery times are influenced by product availability, geographic location of the Seller, your shipping destination and the courier partner's time-to-deliver to your location.

Please enter your default pin code on the product page to know more accurate delivery times on the product page itself.

Seller does not/cannot ship to my area. Why?

Enter your pincode on the product page to know whether the product can be delivered to your location.

If you haven't provided your pincode until the checkout stage, the pincode in your last used shipping address will be used to check for serviceability.

Whether your location can be serviced or not depends on:

      • Whether the Seller actually ships to your location
      • Legal restrictions, if any, in shipping particular products to your location
      • The availability of reliable courier partners in your location

At times Sellers prefer not to ship to certain locations. This is entirely at their discretion.

    Description

The World is Flat is a book on the history of the 21st Century, and the rapid pace of globalization made possible by technology, by Thomas L. Friedman.

    Summary of the Book

The world has changed. 1989 didn’t merely signal the fall of the Berlin Wall, but also the rise of Microsoft and the IBM PC. No longer is information carefully hidden with medieval scorn. Instead, the World Wide Web bolsters sharing of information at a global scale. Technology has become the main play of the 21st century and Friedman shows how this changes things in the world of economics and politics. He explains that globalization of resources – and inevitable effect of worldwide communications – has enabled companies around the world to join hands to make changes that weren’t possible before. He begins with the advent of Windows and how its graphical interface and intuitive features won the hearts of all the people around the world. He explains that Netscape and the Web jointly changed things by bringing everyone from five-year-olds to ninety-five-year-olds to the Internet by 1995. He follows up with explaining the various work methods made possible only because of these changes. Workflow software, uploading, outsourcing, offshoring, supply-chaining, insourcing and informing have their place in this revolution of work methods, reducing production times and increasing quality like never before. Friedman attributes the awakening of his ideologies to a visit to Bangalore, where the former Infosys CEO Nandan Nilekani’s statement inspired the title of this book.

Read only if you were living in a cave for last 20 years

I purchased this book only because of all the hype that it has created and discovered that it was no where worth it.

The author describes how with the advent of internet the world has become interconnected, how outsourcing is good for US (as it means that they can spend time on improving their skills while leaving menial work for Indians and Chinese) etc. In between, he keeps dropping names of rich guys here and there, which becomes irritating after a while.

If a guy pretending to discuss...

    Excellent book--very informative and analytic

It is an extremely informative book, extremely well researched and it has brought out the mechanism of flattening of the world, its merits and demerits. India and China play great role in flattening of the world. Author has hope that India would emerge as a great power due to increasing population of educated youths. He has cautioned extremist, specially Muslims to have more sense and understand Quaran in real sense which never teaches violence and terrorism.

    Worth Every Penny

Initially when i saw the price of this product, i was like - Should i buy such an expensive book ? But i was compelled to buy this book considering that it had won the Best Business Book of the Year.
This book answers many questions which anyone has about how the world is moving forward. The author himself has put in a lot of work and this book is a derivative of his personal experiences. This book also has a lot to say about the developing nations like India. It was an eye-opener and i woul...

    The World is flat.

It is one of the best books written on globalization. Very apt examples quoted by the author to explain the process of flattening of the international boundaries.

    Not worth the money

He has nothing else to tell us other than what we already know, that the world has become so connected thanks to the revolution in communication technology and IT. But he does it in a rather unimpressive way, using disappointing standards of language. If you want to read it, either borrow it from library or get an E-Book, Don't spend the money for this. Not worth the money or the time.

The World Is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman

The book presents an amazing and exciting view of the twenty-first century globalized world. The author has impressively illustrated the successes and fear alike. It is an outcome of deep and thorough research. The derivation of all information from the most primary sources, from interviews with the most concerned persons, from conversation with authority intellectual figures and from workers directly involved in supply-chain makes the book highly authentic and interesting.

Highly informing book. Helps to know the world better in a whole new way. Thomas Friedman has done extensive research into this book. Now I won't be doubting the quality of Toshiba and at the same time will be proud of my Dell laptop.
