  • Description

The story of Draupadi, one of the most fascinating characters in the Mahabharata.

Strange as it may appear, Draupadi, the most accomplished heroine of the Mahabharata, happens to be the most suffering, sacrificing, and yet the most misunderstood character from the epic. Though counted among the five supremely virtuous women, honoured as pancha sati in mythology, the name Draupadi still bears stigma and is often contemptuously uttered by people in society as the woman who brought about the greatest war of all times.

Pratibha Ray makes a determined effort for a balanced portrayal of the epic character and brings to the surface the broader and deeper aspects of Draupadis mind that lay submerged in the majestic sweep of the grand Mahabharata.

    Yajnaseni :The story of Draupadi

The story of one of the greatest heroine of the times. What makes her great is not the fact that she was born a princess but the way she handled her life with raw energy. Her life was no bed of roses yet the way she handles herself; with grace ,poise and equanimity speaks volumes about her inner strength. That steel is present in every woman yet we fail to understand it. She bowed down to the conditions laid on her by the society, her father, her husbands...and myriad others but she still remain...

Disappointed . .Dont waste your money by buying the book

I brought this book with great expectation, after referring by one of my friend.
But i am thoroughly disappointed. this book reflects a new Draupadi, who had pre-martial affairs... (with kirshna and then on his instruction changing mind to accept Arjuna) and marrying Arjuna thinking of someone else.!!!! Infact Draupadi is the character never expressed her feeling throughout her life.
The insult to Karna at her swayamvaram by caused by her brother !!!!!! is she trying to change the history ...

    nice

presenting the original Alpha Woman. Nice to read the subtle undertones of passion and resentment between her and Arjun. Towards the end, wish she had kept up the revenge momentum, instead of suddenly veering towards forgiveness. Draupadi deserved a happier and content ending than Vyas gives her.

    YAJNASENI

A beautiful read...rarely have read something so intriguing....the start itself is unique...

It reveals the agony pain and pride that Draupadi takes in her stride...for one simple reason...Being a woman with beauty brains and royal lineage...

The hurt and injustice met out to her because of the age old convention of considering a woman as an object...

It explains her trysts, sacrifices and the ulimate saying "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"

    An enlightening read...placing oneself i...

    Draupadi's Narrative.

So when was the last time you heard Draupadi's reference because of the historic 'cheer haran' scene?
And this book will tell you why Panchali so is much more than a wife , more than a daughter, she carves her space when Subhadra is to share Arjun, she is one woman who knows how to be heard. Go for it.
Ray's style is simple and lucid.

    Not Exactly Unputdownable

I bought this book after reading all the wonderful reviews. Now I won't say that I was disappointed, but neither did it amaze me. I do know many facts that I didn't knew before reading it.

Now to why I didn't like it. As far as I have read Krishnaa (Draupadi) is a princess so high on morals and values, that at times it gets very annoying. All she can think about all the time is when she will "unite" with Arjun while she also "fulfills her duties" towards her other husbands. More than half t...
