Yogdipika is the Gujarati translation of the English classic Light on Yoga by the living legend Yogacharya BKS Iyengar.

Light on Yoga, first published in 1964  still remain the most authoritative text on the philosophy and practice of yoga.  This classic is divided into three parts The first few pages are devoted to the philosophy of yoga. The second part is the heart of the book. It contains detailed technique for performing 200 asanas accompanied by 600 black and white photographs which are now considered iconic. This part is extremely well structured. It first gives the name of the asana, followed by the meaning of the name, a difficulty rating from a scale of 1 to 60, step wise techniques on how to perform the asana and get out of the asana and finally the effects of the practice of each of these asana. The third part deals with pranayama.

The appendixes also have a lot of value. One gives a week by week programme to build up one’s practice and another appendix lists out the asanas and pranayama that need to be done for specific disorders.

The book is a masterpiece as evidenced by the fact that it has been translated into 19 languages including Indian, European and middle eastern languages and continues going into reprint after reprint.. A must-have for an student of yoga.
