The Nokia C5-03 is an affordable 3G touchscreen smartphone that runs the Symbian S60 5th Edition OS. The 3.2 inch resistive display packs 640 x 360 and supports kinetic scrolling. A resistive touchscreen is made of 3 layers and requires you to put pressure on it to sense the area of touch. The resistive touchscreen works with any pointing devices like stylus, pen, or even nail. The use of pointing device makes the touch screen usage more accurate.
A 5 megapixel camera sits on the rear panel of the C5-03, and shoots at maximum resolution of 2592 x 1944 pixels. Nokia has included multiple shooting modes in the Nokia C5-03's camera including a Manual Mode, that gives you control over ISO, white balance and exposure. The phone can record VGA videos at 15 fps with the option of directly sharing them on Facebook or Twitter.
Design
The C5-03 sports an all-plastic glossy body with a textured bottom cap. Nokia has stuck to physical keys for Menu and Call Answer/End functions. The phone measures a little under 14 mm and weighs 93 g, coupled with the rounded edges, it makes for ergonomic and portable design.
On the top spine sits the 3.5 mm headphone socket and micro USB port. The right edge of the C5-03 houses the lock button and a volume rocker. A standard cylindrical pin Nokia charging point occupies the bottom edge. An accelerometer aids in auto-orientation of the screen while a proximity sensor controls the auto-turn off of the display. The Digital Compass installed in the handset gives you directions to the desired location.
Battery and Storage
The Nokia C5-03 is powered by a Li-Ion 1000 mAh and gives 11 hours and 4 hours of talktime in 2G and 3G networks respectively. The internal memory of 40 MB can be expanded up to 16 GB with a microSD card. The phone can be charged either by plugging it to the mains via the charging pin or by connecting to a PC through the USB port.
Connectivity and Features
The Nokia C5-03 supports Opera Mini browser and allows PC-like browsing experience with double tap to zoom support. The phone can connect to the web via GPRS, EDGE, 3G and Wi-Fi networks. The Nokia C5-03 has a built-in A-GPS module that allows turn-by-turn voice navigation for walking and driving directions. The free navigation support via Ovi Maps, gives the C5-03 an edge over smartphones in the same price bracket.
The C5-03 excels in the sound department, the phone delivers rich, high clarity audio, on-par with it's XpressMusic siblings. The music player features album art support along with multiple preset equalizers for optimised audio output. The Quickoffice app comes preloaded in the phone and allows you to view documents on the go. Social networking apps like Facebook, Twitter and Myspace are accessible via homescreen widgets.
