A Dictionary of Zoology  (English, Paperback, Leftwich)

A Dictionary of Zoology exclude such medical and anatomical terms as are to be found in any medical dictionary-and such elementary biological
terms as are to be found in any school textbook. The second edition contained a supplement of about 450 additional definitions including many relating to the new discoveries of DNA RNA and the Genetic Code. These and 1600 others are now incorporated in the main part of the dictionary making a total of about 6700 terms. In earlier editions did not include the English names of common or well-known animals chiefly because such names are often vague and ambiguous and because there are well over a million known species of animal many of which have no English names. In order not to make the- book too cumbersome by repetition however these animals have in most cases not been fully described but cross-references have been made to definitions of families etc. given in Part I.The first and second editions contained an appendix relating to classification and nomenclature and another on the transliteration of Greek words. These have now been expanded by the addition of a simplified Classification Table for the whole animal kingdom and have been included in Part III thus doing away with the two appendices. The new book is nearly twice the size of the first edition and with the English names in Part II comprises some 7500 definitions.
