In an effort to move away from societal norms and stereotypes, the protagonist ‘I’ strives to embrace the Western Post Modern in every way possible. She wishes to see men around her respect women as equals and she wants to see this equality most importantly in love relations. From the first time that she falls in love, to a major heart break many years later in her second relationship, she discovers not just many nuances of most Indian men’s mentality but she discovers a lot about herself too and she changes from being a docile beloved to a woman of unbeatable dignity and feminist awakening. She wishes to live life at her own terms, whatever the cost. She has the power and dignity to acknowledge all she does openly without fear of judgment. In a land like India where Patriarchy seeps into every relation including love, women start following the norm blindly. This novel attempts to portray a different stand without being dictatorial. This is a journey of self realisation, finding love, finding oneself more importantly and not losing out on some very beautiful bits about this culture that we were born to, in a bid to become all western. The three main characters have no names so that this story can be anyone’s story. This shows us how overwhelming an experience and how moving a journey life is.
