Dr. Marina Rita Pinto has had a distinguished academic career spanning 5 decades and more. She is credited with the first position at the B.A. and M.A. examinations in Political Science, and a well-appreciated d o c t o r a l d i s s e r t a t i o n i n P u b l i c Administration, all from the University of Mumbai. She has also been the recipient of several prizes, scholarships and awards, including the Haldane Prize of the Royal Institute of Public Administration, London (1991), the Professor P. S. Ramaswamy Memorial Best Teacher Award from the South Indian Education Society’s (SIES) College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Mumbai (2010) and the Paul H. Appleby Award from the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), New Delhi (2011). Dr. Pinto has undertaken research projects sponsored by the University Grants Commission. She has presented papers at national and international conferences and published extensively in reputed journals. She has also published several books, the more recent ones being Metropolitan City Governance in India (2000), Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai and Ward Administration jointly with Dr. D. A. Pinto (2005) and an IIPA-sponsored monograph on Women Administrators of Maharashtra (2015). With her ongoing pursuit of academic and professional interests and her association with students, researchers and the teaching fraternity, Dr. Pinto continues to contribute to the cause of higher education in India.
