Description

This is a popular study and reference material on the subject of engineering mathematics.

Summary Of The Book

The book is a comprehensive text for engineering mathematics. Into its eighth edition, this is a popular study material for students whose chosen subject of study requires an understanding of advanced engineering mathematical concepts.

The subject matter is arranged chapter wise, and these are grouped into seven parts. This self contained text provides a thorough coverage of engineering mathematics, with detailed examples and illustrations.

The content is divided into parts, which are Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE), Linear Algebra, Vector Calculus, Fourier Analysis and Partial Differential Equations, Complex Analysis, Numerical Methods, Optimization Graphs, and Probability and Statistics.

The first part covers first order ODEs and second order linear ODEs, systems of differential equations, phase plane and quantitative methods, series solutions of ODEs and special functions, and Laplace transforms.

The second part covers vectors, matrices, determinants, linear systems of equations, matrix Eigenvalue problems, vector differential calculus, and vector integral calculus. The third part covers Fourier series, integrals and transforms, and partial differential equations.

The fourth part concentrates on complex analysis topics such as complex numbers and functions, conformal mapping, complex integration, power series, Taylor series, Laurent series, residue integration, and complex analysis applied to potential theory.

The fifth part explains numerical methods. The topics here are numerical methods in general, numerical methods in linear algebra, and numerical methods for differential equations. Part six covers optimization graphs such as unconstrained optimization, linear programming, and graphs and combinatorial optimization.

Part seven covers probability and statistics, which includes data analysis, probability theory, and mathematical statistics. The appendix section contains references, answers to odd numbered problems, auxiliary material, formulas for special functions, additional proofs, and tables.
Each chapter ends with a chapter review and chapter summary. The chapter review consists of questions and exercises on the topics covered in the chapter.

A good purchase for understanding concepts

A good purchase but the problems were not appealing, i have been using BS grewal and the problems are tougher there, although ideas in this books are given in a better way. If you don't want to brawl your brain much and go for this book, also for better understanding it is a bit better but problems are easier than it should be.

Mind-blowing purchase

best book out there in engineering mathematics. Far better than B.S.Grewal and far simpler than it. Delightful to study. Must have book for engineers. Sideline every other book on engineering math and focus on it. It is the ultimate book.

Nice book.

If you want to learn engineering mathematics from this book, well let's just say that it will be hard for you. I bought this book from the same purpose also but well it is not suited for the beginners. You can use this book as a reference one after you have finished the one Indian writer book your college has recommended for the subject. Otherwise you will find the content of the book a bit tough to understand.

Awesome book to really learn..

The mathematics in this book is elegant and good to understand. If you feel that your topics need of PDES and ODES and need more connections then this book does it. It explores cases on a wider range than most VTU textbooks. This book was referred to me by my lecturer when was teaching me CFD. I feel it is a must have for those who love maths..

Pros :

Best in its class

This book is simply best in its class but , if anyone cannot understand clearly the any matter ,I will suggest to go for some other basic book and then read it .
This book is of top standard and of high level. The problems are very challenging.
This book really adds value to my book collection. This is an engineering maths book but equally useful to degree level maths students and researchers.
