This village simpleton made his debut in 1983, and was created by Ram Waeerkar, borne from a collaboration of three stories sent by Sameer Salman. Suppandi’s ignorance and simplistic outlook on life is redeemed by his unwavering sense of loyalty. He is often seen getting into trouble with many of his employers.

About Anant Pai

Anant Pai, born in 1929, was an Indian cartoonist, educator and a pioneer in Indian comics.

Some of his notable works include comic strips like Ramu and Shamu, Little Raji, and Rekha. He has also written books like Chanakya, Birbal The Wise, Stories of Krishna, Shakuntala, How To Develop Self-confidence, and How To Develop A Super Memory.

Anant Pai grew up in Mumbai, studying at Orient School, Mahim. He graduated in Chemical Technology, Physics and Chemistry from the University of Bombay. After failing at an attempt to create a magazine for children, he procured a job as a junior executive in The Times of India books division. He left that job and founded Amar Chitra Katha, which went on to be one of India’s largest comic book series. He also founded Rang Rekha Features, India's first cartoon and comic syndicate in 1969. His interest in personality development led to the foundation of the Partha Institute of Personality Development in 1978. In 1961, Pai married his wife, Lalita, and the couple lived in Mumbai. He died of a massive heart attack in 2011.
