  • Description

A dark, brilliantly conceived and deeply chilling novel that has sold over 700,000 copies in the author's native France. 'A novel so extraordinary that it reminded me of reading Steig Larsson for the very first time. Bussi breaks every rule in the book, but I doubt I'll read a more brilliant crime novel this year' - Joan Smith, Sunday Times.

On the night of 22 December 1980, a plane crashes on the Franco-Swiss border and is engulfed in flames. 168 out of 169 passengers are killed instantly. The miraculous sole survivor is a three-month-old baby girl. Two families, one rich, the other poor, step forward to claim her, sparking an investigation that will last for almost two decades. Is she Lyse-Rose or Emilie?

Eighteen years later, having failed to discover the truth, private detective Credule Grand-Duc plans to take his own life, but not before placing an account of his investigation in the girl's hands. But, as he sits at his desk about to pull the trigger, he uncovers a secret that changes everything - then is killed before he can breathe a word of it to anyone.

    A captivating and intriguing thriller

This book is an absolute delight for anyone who loves reading crime thrillers because it’s lucid narration, rich vocabulary and fast pace keeps the reader rushing back and forth attempting to connect the dots and seek a solution to the ever-magnifying mystery.

The beauty of the plot lies in the sensitive, close to reality description of the characters in the plot, where enough room has been given for each of them to grow. The plot is captivating and intriguing with hardly a pause in the ac...

18 years to solve a mystery!

After the Crash is a really superb mystery thriller - one that hooks you in immediately and leaves you hanging on every world while you wait to find out the outcome.

So the premise is very clever - a baby is the sole survivor of a plane crash. Two families claim she is theirs - in the days before DNA and with such a young child, how on earth do you work out who she is? Especially when there are no real clues. The court eventually decides but then begins years of investigation by the losing r...

A terrific thriller which keeps you hooked

An Airbus flying from Istanbul to Paris runs into horrendous weather en route and crashes into Mont Terri along the France-Switzerland border, a couple of nights before Christmas in 1980.

All passengers are believed to be dead, but when the rescue team reaches the site they are able to find a baby girl, about three months old who has miraculously escaped death.

Two families that night were flying with an infant that fits the description of this girl – one of them an influential family whose...

    Unputdownable

It never ceases to amaze me when writers weave plot-lines together into a memorable conclusion. In this remarkable novel, Michel Bussi gives a delightful account of the distant past being gradually discovered by multiple characters in the present. The story is so intricate, yet so simple.
This is story of two families affected by a plane crash. The sole miracle survivor, a three month-old baby girl, is claimed by two families as their grand-daughter. A private detective tries for eighteen yea...

One of the best thrillers this year !

Lyse-Rose or Emilie or LyLie ? This is not jsut a story of the sole survivor of a plane crash but also how the simplest desires and expectations are capable of extracting huge price ! how seemingly kind people can be ruthless and so focussed on winning that they leave no person or event come in their way.

Michel Bussi has written a brilliantly woven story and exceptional characters here. From the voice of the coffee owner in the beginning to that of the grandmother in the end , every per...

    Fantastic read

A fantastic whodunit but not in the traditional sense. The plot is quite amazing and will keep you going till the very end. The writing perhaps is not as polished as it could be but the sheer progression of the story will keep you taut in apprehension of what is to come next.

Pick it up and finish it one go, if you start you will not be able to let go.
