It's for those who'd like to see the Modern Indian history in a broader light with a human perspective different than us. The book could have been more vivid, enjoyable. It decently serves the purpose for what it's written for.
This book reminds of a class of people whose legacy created the British Raj in India. August 15, 1947 was a day with mixed feelings for the British in India. Many left India for good but those who remained had to compromise with a lot of things. But they were a class apart which a normal Indian can never match.
