The Gita is a conversation between Krishna and Arjuna in the Battle of Kurukshetra, where a great battle was about to take place between two cousins, Kauravas and Pandavas. Arjuna was reluctant to fight against his own relatives and friends and sought advice from Krishna. Krishna did not want to provoke Arjuna to war and bloodshed through the Gita. Krishna wanted to guide Arjuna to perform his duty as a warrior and to uphold the principles of dharma or righteousness. Therefore, the Gita is not a provocation for war and bloodshed, but a spiritual discourse that teaches us the art of living and dying. Shri Krishna probably narrated the Gita to Arjuna for many reasons, but an important reason was that Krishna wanted to reveal the supreme science of Gita to the world through Arjuna, which would act as a role model and teacher for future generations.
