Ambedkar - Towards an Enlightened India (English, Paperback, Omvedt Gail)
This book is the biography of a man who is known for having drafted the Indian Constitution.
Summary of the Book
Many books have been written about Ambedkar before this, but they all concentrate on his social activist side. This book focuses on how he made an effort to bring justice to the Dalits. Ambedkar was born into and belonged to the Mahar community. He underwent many humiliations and the Mahars were considered to be untouchables. He decided that the Dalits needed to be brought out of the Hindu society to be free. Gandhiji and other freedom fighters fought against the British rule, while Ambedkar concentrated on freeing the marginalized societies from orthodox oppression. He wanted to provide justice to these communities and provide them with equal rights so they could live with dignity and respect. In this book, the author has traced the life of Ambedkar from when he was a child to the struggles that he overcame. Today, he is one of the most highly respected leaders of the country.
