  • Description

Stunning reissue of the phenomenal worldwide bestseller: Frank McCourt's sad, funny, bittersweet memoir of growing up in New York in the 30s and in Ireland in the 40s.

It is a story of extreme hardship and suffering, in Brooklyn tenements and Limerick slums – too many children, too little money, his mother Angela barely coping as his father Malachy's drinking bouts constantly brings the family to the brink of disaster. It is a story of courage and survival against apparently overwhelming odds.

Written with the vitality and resonance of a work of fiction, and with a remarkable absence of sentimentality, ‘Angela’s Ashes’ is imbued on every page with Frank McCourt's distinctive humour and compassion. Out of terrible circumstances, he has created a glorious book in the tradition of Ireland's literary masters, which bears all the marks of a great classic.

    One of the best

It was plain coincidence that I bought this book in resale just for 2 pounds while in London.

But when I read the full book, i quickly became fan of frank McCourt and his writing style.

Despite of spending such a terrible childhood, he doesn't seem to be bitter about it, instead he mocks about it.

A true masterpiece, I am waiting to have my hands on Tis: A memoir, the second part of this book. But right now it seems too costly in india.

    A Great Book

Frank McCourtâ??s â??Angelaâ??s Ashesâ? lived up to my expectations. Generally, award winning books are not my cup of tea but Angelaâ??s Ashes was different. Itâ??s the memoir of this young Irish kid whose drunkard of a father leaves him, his mother and his brothers to fend for themselves and their struggle to survive. What is touching is that young Frankâ??s perspective on life starts with acceptance of his abject poverty. That is his normal. The book blends a childâ??s innocence with the u...

    Redefining Awesomeness!

It is such an amazing book that you'll want to read it forever and never ever finish it!! Although it is set in a very sad backdrop, the author always has a hilarious edge to everything possible. This is one book anyone would recommend to everyone and in fact force them to read it!

    Worst Seller

Twice he sent an old book. First time, I returned it for another copy. That also turned out to be an old one, but relatively newer. The cover is different from what is shown here. After few days, there was a book fair, and the book I received was being sold there at INR200/kg :( It is time that Flipkart does a sanity check on its sellers.
