Ashtadhyayi has an important place in all the books of grammar. There are eight chapters in this Ashtadhyayi and each chapter has four padas. Altogether there are thirty-two padas. There are about 3993 sutras in the Ashtadhyayi. It is a supernatural miracle of Panini and his genius to fill a lot of meaning in very small sutras.
This small formula, leaving the small form, later assumes such a vast form that the entire Sanskrit literature, appears to be imbued with it. Panini's profound talent is echoing in each Sutra and teaches readers to memorize texts like Ashtadhyay.

Panini was born in Shalatur village. Shalatur is an abbreviation of the word Salatur Lahur or Lahore. Some historians believe that Lahore village near Atak was Shalatur, now in Pakistan. It is absolutely true that Panini's mother's name was Dakshi and Panini's father's name was Shalanki (Shalanku). Panini's younger brother was named Pingala. He is believed to be the same Pingalacharya who composed the Pingalashastra (Chhanda Shastra). Panini's teacher was named Varsha or Upavarshopadhyaya.
