    All-time greatest biographies

This is definitely in my top ten if not top five of all-time greatest autobiographies. I've read the book at least twice and even over the years parts of remain vivid in my mind. This include Ben's excited, youthful investigation of the bustling Philadelphia city, cheap loaf of bread under his arm. His noted desire to note and hopefully some day fix things with those he has wronged is very human, honest, and affecting. His excitement as an apprentice printer telegraphs well.

    I highly recomme...

Good old Ben comes across as a great guy

Good old Ben comes across as a great guy to hoist a beer and talk with about pretty much anything. He calls himself a philosopher, but he really takes a proto-scientific view of everything. He analyzes every machine and process he encounters and figures out how to improve it; every person he meets and how best to interact with them. He apprentices to his brother at 15 and begins writing anonymous pieces for his newpaper which become popular and boost the circulation. Two years later he is bef...

    Good but not great

It is more of a life story of Franklin than any inspirational material. Some parts about his youth are very well written. His emphasis on the need of industry and discipline as a necessary virtue is a good eye-opener. However, for most parts I had to struggle through the archaic English words. But overall a nice read.

It is interesting to read about his life

It is interesting to read about his life from his point of view. The things that I remember him for are not the things that he notes as the most important or memorable. His system for self improvement was ingenious. Ben Franklin became one of my hero's after reading this book.

Benjamin Franklin is a good man

Benjamin Franklin is very much a man of his time. He concerns himself with God and self-improvement. This book is a kind of time machine that puts you straight into the Eighteenth Century.

Though the autobiography is unfinished, it does contain quite a bit of information about young Benjamin Franklin, his beginnings in the printing business, and his later entry into public life. He also give significant detail into his reasons and methods for starting the first public library and the first p...
