Summary of the Book
F. Ross Johnson, the CEO of RJR Nabisco, plans to buy out the rest of the Nabisco shareholders. Those oppose to his bid for the company, Henry Kravis and his cousin George R. Roberts, will be among the forerunners of the leveraged takeover. Kravis, being the first person to talk to Johnson about doing the leveraged buyout, feels deceived after coming to know that Johnson wanted to strike a deal with the former Shearson Lehman Hutton division of American Express. But Johnson eventually loses after a bidding war, and the differences will be left unresolved. This book was made into a made-for-TV movie by HBO.
About the Authors
Bryan Burrough is an American author and correspondent for Vanity Fair. He was previously working for the Wall Street Journal as a reporter. Some of his other books are: Vendetta: American Express and the Smearing of Edmond Safra, Dragonfly, Public Enemies, and The Big Rich.
John Helyar is an American author and journalist for the Wall Street Journal. He has also authored the title, Lords of the Realm: The Real History of Baseball.
