| Author Info | - Born on 20 July 1939, in a well-known village of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Brigadier (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) grew up in colonial British India. Starting his education in a local school, he holds degrees of Master of Arts (M.A.) from Allahabad University, Master of Science (M.Sc.) from Madras University, Bachelor of Law (LLB) from Delhi University and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Jiwaji University, Gwalior.
An Infantry Officer, commissioned into the Indian Army on 17 December 1961, the Author has been a faculty member at the College of Combat, MHOW, and the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. In the service of the nation, he fought against the Chinese in 1962, against the Pakistanis in 1965, and again against the Pakistanis in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. For many years, he carried out counter-insurgency operations in the most inhospitable terrain of the North Eastern region of India.
In March 1993, as the Force Commander of the National Security Guard (N.S.G.), he led a surgical strike on an Indian Airlines hijacked aircraft, neutralised the hijacker, rescued 126 passengers and nine crew members, all unscathed and earned the appreciation of the Prime Minister of India which stands out as his highly acclaimed operational achievement.
'The Forts and Fortresses of Gwalior and its Hinterland' (Manohar Publishers, New Delhi) and 'Hobnailed Boots and Buttoned Up Coat' are commended books written by the Author. He has a keen interest in Sanskrit and Urdu languages. With passion, he keeps himself abreast with contemporary military matters.
In public service, as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Lieutenant Governor of U.T. Ladakh, the great leader Shri Narendra Modi's traits of humanism, integrity, innovative actions and vision have been his earnest pursuits.
