Lotus is known as an aquatic flower. These flowers grow in freshwater and are found floating in freshwater bodies, such as lakes and ponds. The petals of this flower are in the shape of a boat. Some lotus flowers are white and some are pink in colour. This flower has big round leaves that are dark green.
People use lotus for bleeding, cough, fever, liver and stomach problems, and other conditions, but there is no scientific evidence to support these uses. In Asia, various parts of the lotus plant are commonly used for cooking, baking, and adding flavor to beverages.
Soil Nutrient Requirements
A good potting medium for lotus is a soil mixture about 60 percent clay and 40 percent river sand. Leave about 3 to 4 inches (7.6 to 10.2 cm) between the top of the soil and the rim of your container. You can also use amended soil, with a separate layer of sand 2 to 3 inches (5.1 to 7.6 cm) deep on top.
