Verbena is a plant. The parts that grow above ground are used to make medicine. Verbena is used for sore throats and respiratory tract diseases such as asthma and whooping cough, and for heart conditions such as chest pain (angina) and fluid retention due to heart failure.
Soil Nutrient Requirements
Soil. These plants like fairly dry soil with slightly acidic to neutral pH (5.8 to 7.2). Verbena is not too particular about soil, except that it must be well-draining. Heavy clay can lead to root rot, so dig in several shovelfuls of compost or leaf mold to lighten dense soils.
Sowing Method
Common garden varieties have tiny, fragrant flowers in saucer-shaped clusters up to 3 inches across. The most common flower colors include shades of pink, red, purple, coral, and blue-violet, as well as bicolored varieties.
