The book is Dewi Ayu’s journey back in the grotesque world where she is a prostitute, this forms one of the essential part of Eka Kuriawan’s Indonesia. A classic entertainer
Beauty is a wound is a fantastic novel which revolves around a character who we would not even take it our stride for her profession. But the way the author has woven a satire of life and history of nation as much as you can think about it. There is an eerie sense of humour that best describes the way the characters are presented by the author.

Glad to be wounded.
I was pretty excited when this book arrived in the mail, after a long break from reading. And the previous two reads being non-fiction. Beauty is a wound is 'beautifully' written by Eka Kurniawan, a forty year old Indonesian Writer.
I was very intrigued by the description of the book itself! The cover is a work of art too, with the picture of a Carrion Flower (A flower that smells like rotten meat), which totally does with the title and story.

Eka Kurniawan starts his novel as “One afternoon on a weekend in May, Dewi Ayu rose from her grave after being dead for twenty-one years….” and you can guess, the readers are in for an epic novel.
