Based on the extraordinary life of legendary Mahakavi Subramania Bharatiyar, Bharathi is a Tamil movie that won the National Film Award for the year 2000. Directed by Gnana Rajasekaran, the movie depicts the journey of Chinnaswami Subramania Bharatiyar as a poet, journalist, Indian independence activist, and social reformer. His blazing compositions are known for igniting the flame of patriotism amongst revolutionists during Indian Independence movement. The movie stars Sayaji Shinde and Devayani in lead roles.
