Blandings Castle is a novel that is a collection of short stories by Wodehouse. It starts with how the walls of Blandings Castle have been covered with ivy, and seem to glow with every passing story in this novel. The ninth earl of Emsworth, Clarence, has been introduced to the readers at this point. The rolling parkland is now filled with snakes that are poised to nip the Earl when he least expects it. The book has been successful in portraying the author’s skill in writing comic stories.

The Empress of Blandings has chosen to deprive herself of food, and now must be coaxed to eat. She has been in the running for the lead spot in the fat pig’s class at the Shropshire agricultural show. Gardener McAllister is part of a feud that has erupted in the castle, and this has been supported by Lady Constance, who is the frightful sister of the Earl.

The summer fete is another problem that must be dealt with at the castle. These events are suddenly interrupted when a headstrong little girl arrives from London, and the custody of this little child is an issue that must now be dealt with. These events, and much more help to make the book an interesting read for people of various ages.

Rowling, John Le Carre, Douglas Adams, and Stephen Fry admire Wodehouse greatly for his contributions to the field of literature. Apart from writing novels, he also wrote 15 plays, and 250 lyrics for 30 musical comedies. In the year 2000, an annual award for the best comic writing in the UK was named after Wodehouse, which is the Bollinger Everyman Wodehouse Prize. Wodehouse passed away on the 14th of February, 1975, in Southampton, New York, US.
