  • Description

Blandings Castle is a comic novel that focuses on a series of events that take place in Blandings Castle, with the sudden arrival of a small, rebellious girl from London.

    Summary Of The Book

Blandings Castle is a novel that is a collection of short stories by Wodehouse. It starts with how the walls of Blandings Castle have been covered with ivy, and seem to glow with every passing story in this novel. The ninth earl of Emsworth, Clarence, has been introduced to the readers at this point. The rolling parkland is now filled with snakes that are poised to nip the Earl when he least expects it. The book has been successful in portraying the author’s skill in writing comic stories.

The Empress of Blandings has chosen to deprive herself of food, and now must be coaxed to eat. She has been in the running for the lead spot in the fat pig’s class at the Shropshire agricultural show. Gardener McAllister is part of a feud that has erupted in the castle, and this has been supported by Lady Constance, who is the frightful sister of the Earl.

The summer fete is another problem that must be dealt with at the castle. These events are suddenly interrupted when a headstrong little girl arrives from London, and the custody of this little child is an issue that must now be dealt with. These events, and much more help to make the book an interesting read for people of various ages.

Some other short stories in this book include The Custody Of The Pumpkin, Mr. Potter Takes A Rest Cure, The Rise Of Minna Nordstrom, Monkey Business, and The Juice Of An Orange. Blandings Castle has been considered an elegant novel that reflects the author’s writing skills to the fullest. These short stories have also been adapted into a television series, which was aired by BBC in the year 1967, 1975 and 1976.

What more do i have to say?

P.G Wodehouse was read by scores of people who were feeling a little low in life, and who were later found to be more cheerful.

That isn't overstating the master's ability to transport the reader into a world oblivious to mundane feelings of nihilism. Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie have both read P.G Wodehouse to help during their times of depression. The universe in which his characters reside is really fun to explore :)

All it takes to start Wodehouse is a little bit of vocabulary and the p...

Really, what are you waiting for..? Go ahead and order it already :)

First the feel of the book, a darling cover, just the right size, beautiful paper and print. Arrow has done a great job. I love just holding the book.

Now to the content. The first story I read was Mr. Potter takes a Rest-cure. And it made me laugh out loud. Not many books can do that at the first round, let alone the second. This one does, and how!

The pros are great book to hold, read, remember...
    The cons... there's on...

Blunders sometimes happen for the good!

While the dotty Earl of Emsworth goes about in his hazily comfortable world, his son goes around blundering like only he can, and that, when he displays a hitherto rare sense of enterprise. One thing leads to another and Wodehouse pulls off another humourous tale. The main tale of Blandings' Castle is accompanied by short stories about Mr. Mulliner, or rather, stories about stories told by Mr. Mulliner. A fine collection to calm the mind. And a good laugh to top it up!
