A riveting book about the reclusive Tarahumara Indian tribe, in the Copper Canyons of Mexico, and their unique and honed skills of running for miles, Born To Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, And The Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen is a bestselling novel by Christopher McDougall.
Summary Of The Book
The author, Christopher McDougall, was a runner who often fell victim to many injuries. He decided to embark upon a search for the cloistered Tarahumara Indian tribe in Mexico, who were known for their superhuman ability to run large distances at incredible speeds. The tribe, he discovered, had honed this custodian art for centuries and trained themselves to run longer distances faster, and they seemed untouched by the common ailments of modern man.
Caballo Blanco, an enigmatic and reserved man who lived amidst the tribesfolk, helped the author learn the techniques that would make him a more efficient runner, and help him train for the race of a lifetime, a race of fifty miles through the savage terrain of the Copper Canyons between the tribe and a group of Americans. Through his learnings, the author depicts that everything we presume to know about the art of running is incorrect. Christopher McDougall asserts that the prime reason behind injuries in modern runners is the shoes they wear, the cushioned and soft running shoes that differ starkly from the thin sandals the Tarahumara Indians don. He also points out to the sudden increase in the number of running related injuries since the running shoe was invented and implemented in 1972.
Born To Run: A Hidden Tribe, Superathletes, And The Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen was the recipient of immense critical acclaim, and the author was praised for his strong, quirky and rich storyline. This highly engaging book is full of inspiration, athletic achievements, uplifting characters and modern science.
