Native to Tasmania and New South Wales in Australia, the tree was
first recorded in Tasmania in 1792 and the oil was first distilled in Australia
in the 1850s. By the turn of the 20th century, the Tasmanian Eucalyptus Oil
company was the most highly respected supplier. The tree has been
exported to many areas north and south of the Mediterranean and
elsewhere in the world.

• Native to New Caledonia – an island group in the southwest pacific
well as Australia and Madagascar. The leaves and twigs are often
harvested from wild growing Niaouli Trees. Wherever it grows, the tress
has long been used in indigenous medicine.

• Native to southern Europe thyme is well known as a culinary herb. It
was used medicinally by the Greeks and the Romans. Different types of
thyme essential oil are used in aromatherapy, and although all are distilled
from Thymus Vulgaris. They are distinguished from one another by their
chemical constituents having, for ex: a larger proportion of geraniol or
thujanol.

• Native to Madagascar but now cultivated elsewhere this tree
produces seeds that are used as a spice known as Madagascan nutmeg
which is used in cooking and medicines. The dark smooth evergreen leaves
are distilled to produce the oil. Used predominantly by clinical
aromatherapists.
