This book is a four step, simple procedure to free oneself of OCD or Obsessive-Compulsive disorder.

    Summary Of The Book

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, commonly known as OCD, is a condition where a person is overly perfectionist, or obsessed with cleanliness, hoarding, rituals, checking and rechecking things, relationships or beliefs. It leads to anxiety, all the more so when the individual affected realizes his/her affliction but cannot help himself/herself. It leads to even more anxiety and stress and often causes a lot of waste of time and money. Jeffrey M. Schwartz has described in his book Brain Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior, a simple, 4-step procedure to free oneself from OCD.

Aiming to help more than 5 million Americans who suffer from this disorder, Schwartz offers this alternative, and very effective treatment, in terms of cost and sustainability, through this book. Traditionally, people suffering from OCD may take medicines like Prozac, but it is a symptomatic treatment which causes the symptoms to come right back if medication is discontinued. Moreover, many patients do not respond to this treatment, not to mention the cost involved.

OCD patients are often not in control of their lives. Their compulsive disorders dictate their actions. Schwartz’s procedure of using the mental control of the patients to change the very wiring of their brain and effectively cause positive life-time changes has been clinically proven through brain-imaging tests conducted before and after treatment. The 4-step procedure involves cognitive therapy and modification of behavior, vis-a-vis pharmaceutical treatment and is now recognized and used throughout the world in treatment centers. Through the 4 steps of Relabeling, Reattributing, Refocussing and Revaluing, the OCD sufferer can actually change not only his behaviors but the physical design of his brain, the author claims.

    About Jeffrey M. Schwartz

Jeffrey M. Schwartz is an American psychiatrist. He is an expert on the usage of neuroplasticity, the science of the changing the brain, to cure OCD.

Brain Lock - Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior is written in a style which will help his readers, people from non-medical backgrounds, to be able to apply the steps and methods he has outlined in the book. It is a self-help tool to break lifelong behavioral patterns and is presented in an easy-to-understand-and-apply format.

Jeffrey M. Schwartz has more than one hundred scientific publications to his name. Moreover, books written by him are extremely popular worldwide. He shares the crucial assumption of his work, that the brain is not a static organ as earlier believed, that behavioral changes actually show up in brain-imaging tests in several books like You Are Not Your Brain: The 4-Step Solution for Changing Bad Habits, Ending Unhealthy Thinking, and Taking Control of Your Life, The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force with Rebecca Gladding and The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force with Sharon Begley.

An American citizen, Jeffrey M. Schwartz, M.D, conducts research in the ULCA School of Medicine. He has a Philosophy (Honors) degree from the University of Rochester, and takes considerable interest in Buddhist philosophical ideas and practices.
