Krishna is a major deity in Hinduism and is worshipped as the eighth avatar of Vishnu and also as the supreme God. According to the Bhagavata Purana, Krishna was born to Devaki, but Krishna's father Vasudeva brought the newborn Krishna to his cousin Nanda and his wife Yashoda in Gokula, for his upbringing as well, as to protect Krishna from Devaki's brother Kamsa, the king of Mathura.
