Directed by Tom Holland, Child's Play (1998) and stars Catherine Hicks, Chris Sarandon and Alex Vincent with Brad Dourif lending the voice for the character of Chucky. On the run from police, Charles Lee Ray, a voodoo-practicing serial killer gets shot at a toy shop by Detective Norris. Before he dies, Charles transfers his soul to a doll and ultimately burns down the shop. Norris believes he has killed Charles when he finds his body next to the doll.
In this Tom Holland film, Chucky, the doll possessed by Charles, ends up at Karen Barclay's home as she finds the doll to be a perfect birthday gift to her six year old son Andy. On the night of Chucky's arrival at home, strange events unfold and end up with the killing of Andy's babysitter, who is thrown from a window. Detective Norris, investigating the case, finds his suspicions pointed towards Andy. Under the control of Chucky andy carries Chucky to Chicago where Chucky blows up the house, killing his former associate. With strong suspicions raised towards Andy andy is placed in a mental hospital.
At home, Karen ultimately believes in Andy, as she finds Chucky to be functioning without batteries. Chucky comes alive, bites Karen and escapes. Chucky visits Dr. John, his voodoo teacher and learns that in order to escape the doll, he must possess the first human with whom he has confessed about the possession, which is Andy.
Released by MGM as a single disc, Child's Play is available in DVD format with an A rating. This English language film has a run time of 87 minutes.
