Published in the year 2011, Cleopatra’s Daughter is a novel that is based on the life of Cleopatra’s daughter, Selene, and her desire to retain her rightful place on the throne of Egypt.

    Summary Of The Book

Cleopatra and Mark Anthony’s marriage can be truly regarded as one of the greatest love stories, which was accompanied with dire political consequences. Cleopatra’s Daughter begins with Anthony and Cleopatra killing themselves, as they didn’t want to die at the hands of Octavian, who was on a killing spree in Rome. After they killed themselves, their three young children were taken captive to Rome, out of which only two survived, who were twins. Their names were Alexander and Selene, and this incident made them become extremely close to each other.

The two of them hoped that they would one day return to the throne of Egypt, which they believed, was their rightful place. They were allowed to stay in Octavian’s sister’s household. However, as time passes by, they began to feel intimidated due to the ambitions of Octavian’s court and family. This novel is narrated by Selene, who possesses a very engaging tone, and introduces the readers to a number of historical characters, which include Octavia, Livia, Marcellus, Tiberius, and Juba.

Cleopatra’s Daughter revolves around Selena’s desires to find love, her unique interests, and the pull of family and friendship. She needs to search for the right road in a land where she is surrounded with several dangers, and has to cope with the loss of her family as well as her ancestral kingdom. Her time in Rome has been documented by historical facts, which help the readers travel back in time to comprehend the glories and horrors during that time frame. Moran has done a great deal of research to present the readers with a fascinating story on the lives of people in Ancient Rome, in her stunning novel Cleopatra’s Daughter.

    History finally made interesting

I bought this book with a lot of trepidation because I was never a fan of history. But the book blew my mind. Written in a lucid way its very interesting and keeps you hooked. A nice way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon, especially if you have someone to make you hot tea and samosas and if you have a balcony with a view (sadly I don't have both). I look forward to read all of Michelle's books. Its money well spent.

    Good read

All I wanted to read a historic fiction and yet I crave for more authenticity every time I read it.This book will make you try and do some research on the Family of Anthony and Cleopatra and their children. It was not complex but you will see Cleopatra as a very respectful queen who was highly intelligent and who had a great sight to survive through the political storms arousing around Alexandria.

I liked the book and I want to read more in depth about the Egyptian and Roman cultures. Every a...

A Fine Read for anyone who loves Historical Fiction...

Although the book is based on true facts and stories, certain characters are fictitious.. Over all this book is one of the finest I have read off-late. The author has woven a historical love story so beautifully. Simple to read and elegantly written. Many of us know about the queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, but very few know about her descendants, this book tells you all that in a story that will keep you hooked to the book till the end.

    Very, very well written

This books transports us to ancient Egypt and Rome. The story is about Selena the daughter of Cleopatra and Mark Antony. The story is based on facts and with the exception of the 'Red Eagle' is based on true people and incidents. Very well written, captures readers attention throughout. Fascinating to those who enjoy this genre of 'historical fiction'
