The Collected Short Stories is a collection of works composed from three other works by Jeffrey Archer, which are A Quiver Full of Arrows, Twelve Red Herrings and A Twist in The Tale.

Summary Of The Book

The Collected Short Stories is a brand new edition which combines some of the most favorite tales from Archer’s previous works. As surprise endings are stock in trade for Jeffrey Archer, true to his name, every one of these stories has a twist in the end in his trademark style.

From Twelve Red Herrings we have Never Stop On The Motorway, a story in which the protagonist sets off on an foreboding road trip to her friend’s house as she listens to the narration of the recent rise in horrific crimes against women on the motorway. She encounters a strange vehicle which seems to be tailing her, which sets her off into a mad dash to save her life.

In A Quiver Full of Arrows, we come across The Perfect Gentleman and The Luncheon among others. The Chinese Statue tells us the story of how a precious Chinese heirloom changes hands to a guilt ridden British diplomat from a Chinese sculptor due to an offhand remark. It also documents how the statue isn’t all it seems.

The Collected Short Stories finally contains a few stories from A Twist in The Tale, including The Perfect Murder and The Steal. The Checkmate tells us the deliciously written story of how a series of chess games leads up to flirtatious courtship between the characters in the story and the unnerving conclusion to the match.

The stories have been collected from books that have made Jeffrey Archer among the most well known writers in modern literature. Each individual collection from which the stories has been borrowed have been critically acclaimed and commercially successful.

About Jeffrey Archer

Jeffrey Archer is a prolific writer and many of his books have gone on to become bestsellers.

Some of his other works include A Prisoner of Birth, A Matter of Honour and a short story collection titled And Thereby Hangs A Tale.

Jeffrey Howard Archer was born on 15th April, 1940, in London. Archer purportedly graduated from Brasenose College, Oxford. But, his academic qualifications are still challenged by many. He was a politician before he became an author, and resigned once before returning to the field for a brief period before a second resignation. Jeffrey Archer is married to Mary Doreen Weeden and has two children. He lives in England, though he travels a lot for his book tours and charity work. He has served time in Her Majesty’s Prison for perjury and perverting the course of justice where he composed Prison Diaries.
