Randolph Quirk was an English Professor and author.

Randolph Quirk was born in the Isle of Man in 1920. He studied English at the University College London. He received an MS, a Ph.D and a D.Litt and became a lecturer at that University. He was Commonwealth Fund Harkness fellow at Yale and Michigan and later a Reader at University of Durham. He then returned to UCL as a professor and remained there until 1981.

Geoffrey Leech was a Professor of Linguistics and Modern English.

Geoffrey Leech was born in 1936. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters. He was a Professor of Linguistics and Modern English at the Lancaster University. Later, he became a Research Professor in Linguistics. He is Emeritus Professor of Linguistics at Lancaster University.

Jan Svartvik is an academic and author.
