About Paul G. Hewitt

Paul G. Hewitt, born in 1930, is an American physicist, author, former boxer, uranium prospector, film producer, and cartoonist.

The author has taught in various different universities. His course has been videotaped, and has sold as a set of 34 lectures under the name Conceptual Physics Alive! He has co-authored Conceptual Physical Science, and Practice Book For Conceptual Physical Science Explorations.

His only non-textbook is Touch This- Conceptual Physics for Everyone.

He began college at the age of 27, and started his teaching career at City College of San Francisco in 1964. It was here that Hewitt pioneered the conceptual approach to teaching physics. He has been teaching an evening course for the general public at the Exploratorium since 1980. Hewitt was awarded the Outstanding Educator Award in 2000 by the institution. The author has also produced a film titled Relativistic Time Dilation. It won first prize for science at the American Educational Film Festival in 1977. Hewitt is now a column editor for The Physics Teacher, a monthly magazine of the American Association of Physics Teachers. He was the recipient of the 1982 Millikan Award. He now spends his time in St. Petersburg, Florida, and Hilo, Hawaii.
