Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is a controversial book about John Perkins and his career with the Chas. T. Main consulting firm in Boston. In it, Perkins writes about his claim that his job was a cover-up for a covert operation by the NSA.

    Summary of the Book

In this book, John Perkins presents a controversial claim that he was recruited by the National Security Agency (NSA) to convince the political and financial leaders of developing countries to draw on huge development loans from the World Bank and the USAID. The loans were so enormous that they couldn’t be easily paid back, handing US the reins to the countries’ decisions on several foreign policies. The United States, he claims, has been misusing this power to cripple these nations politically and made the wealth gap wider, driving the economy of these countries lower. He explains that economic hit men have been used by the US to funnel money from the World Bank, the USAID and other foreign aid companies into the pockets of a few wealthy families. These families, he professes, control most of the world’s natural resources, and they spare no risks in rigging elections, making up fraudulent financial reports, payoffs, extortion, sex and murder. This is a controversial book by Perkins, and its authority has been challenged by journalists from around the world.

    About John Perkins

John Perkins is an American writer. He is best known for claiming to have played a role in an alleged process of economic colonization of Third World countries, on behalf of what he portrays as a cabal of corporations, banks, and the United States government.

A graduate of Boston University, Perkins worked for the Boston strategic-consulting firm Chas. T. Main. He has also written: Hoodwinked: An Economic Hit Man Reveals Why the World Financial Markets Imploded – and What We Need to Do to Remake Them, The Secret History of the American Empire and A Game as Old as Empire: the Secret World of Economic Hit Men and the Web of Global Corruption.

    An Eye-opener

This is one of those books that describes how the so called New World order is being created. How economists like him and others collectively write reports that call for investments / financial aid in developing countries, but ensuring in the long run it leads these countries to debts that ultimately benefit multinational corporations and first world countries.
Corporatocracy gets a new meaning. How leaders of countries are deposed, despite working for the good of their country if they don't ...

An insight into the 'globalized' economic system

This is a book that lays down facts about how the ideas of GNP (and it's later more notorious avatar GDP), development, growth etc are all weapons of economic bondage devised by America. Why America goes to war, how the CIA operates etc.

Though the author does get very self indulgent and fills pages upon pages confessing how guilty he feels about being part of the teams that brought Indonesia, Panama and Saudi Arabia into American control - the times when he isn't are very entertainingly wr...

    Chilling Picture of Reality

One often sees the benevolent, enjoyable side of the USA. This book presents the darker side of the country's powerholders. From the horse's mouth. An economic hitman revealing how he hit other economies and subdued them comes across as chilling, but under this narrative lies a far deeper statement - a country's will to stay powerful in current in a changing world.

A intriguing read. If you have a fairly appreciable grasp of post-war world history, you will like this experience.

    Happy Reading!

average read in the wave of new left

Confessions of economic hit man, there is more of consolidated anti corporatocracy thaughts and less of what actual experiences author had about all the system in which he has been put into. First two parts interest reader more as they are full of anecdotes, real life experiences and woven along with world events. But the last two are really prolonged and dull with repetition of ideas of 'confessions' without actually touching the topics for which these confessions are aimed.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

One of the most important books published that exposes the criminal side of the US Empire. Many of us suspected this to be so but the book presents damning evidence of terrorism practiced by the most powerful country in the world against poor and undeveloped countries rich in natural resources. India had escaped this onslaught for years while being a protected economy. Now ironically economically opening up of our borders has enabled wholesale looting of our natural resources under the guise ...

    Awsome and Amazingly Shocking

An eye opener and a perfect guide book for the misguided social and political scientists of the Third World.
One can easily understand why something wrong is going on in their respective country and why their own political leadership is not doing for them what they are suppose to.
Why the countries across the globe are being converted in to mental and political slaves.
