  • Description

This is a practical guide that aims to help the students preparing for the GRE.

    Summary Of the Book

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a common test for admission to colleges and universities in the US and other English speaking countries. The GRE online exam is an adaptive test. The performance in the initial sections of the test determine the difficulty level of the subsequent sections.

The GRE consists of a Verbal section, a Quantitative section, an Analytical Writing section, and an Experimental section. The Experimental section does not contribute towards the final score, but it is mixed up with any one of the other sections. In some instances, a Research section, identified as such, is given at the end of the test instead of the experimental section.

This book, Cracking the New GRE 2012, has been completely revised to reflect the changes made in the exam in August 2011. Each major section of the exam is covered separately, with explanations of concepts and illustrative examples, and exercises for practice.

The book provides several helpful tips and techniques for tackling the various problems in each section. It shows the readers how to solve algebra problems by substituting numbers for the variables. It helps them solve analogies even if they do not comprehend the meaning of each word in the problem.

It covers all the basic concepts in each section, like basic mathematical concepts, as a revision of high school level maths for those who have lost touch with maths for several years. The book provides practical tips for sentence completion section and covers how to identify and avoid wrong answers in the reading comprehension tests.

This edition consists of two full practice tests, several practice exercises in each section with solutions, helpful strategies for tackling each section, and a comprehensive review of all GRE topics, including the new aspects.

One of the best book for GRE - Simple but powerful

The way they write this book will give us all confidence to write the exam. They really have a very good idea about how GRE exam happens and write very well on how to attack the questions.

I have also used Princeton review's TOFEL. It is very good.

Princeton reviews book are simple and very very useful.

    The Best Book

I took the GRE in December 2011 and I score 162 in Quant and 158 in Verbal. I had The Official GRE book by ETS, the Math Workout by Kaplan, another GRE workbook by Kaplan, Verbal Workout by Princeton and this book.
I owe it to this book. One reading of the introduction of this book and you know you are in safe hands. The authors convey their tips and points very well while poking fun at ETS and their rigid testing methods.
Most of the methods to solve Math problems are so easy to remember and...

I owe it to this book

A must refer book for all taking GRE. The strategies are explained really well! It gives you confidence. I found it interesting than Kaplan or Barron's. I made a improvement from 142 to 154! when I took in Oct 2012. So definitely my efforts and this book's guidance deserves a credit.
So anyone taking the GRE preparation, could stick to the ETS official guide as the bible, Princeton to master your skills and Barron's wordlist 2009 version a must for vocab!!

    Good book

Had bought this book, decent book. got 161 in quant and 155 in verbal. THe RC part and the word HIT parade is junk. The math part is deficient on some of the most critical formula( i had forgotten half of it) when i gave the sample test on power prep i had a hard time in quant, but the tips for the other verbal section were useful. If u go to the test just based on this book u will end up with bad marks . Use barrons along with this its very good combo(i had used a very old barons 2008) . All...

Pakka book for the preparation of GRE examination. this book has many plus compared to other books in the market . let me list out them, the first plus is way the author attacks the rc passage then probably the next plus is reviewed GRE word list (has some frequntly appeared word in new GRE pattern) then the nxt biggest plus is the dvd they provided with the book third is the online practice exams they provide in their website ! Last but not the least buying this book at flipkart.com with a ...

    Worth buying

Very useful when it comes to preparing for analytical and verbal section. It helped me a lot. But math section questions are not high in standard. I experienced more challenging questions in my exam. So my verdict is - do buy this book. It won't disappoint you but don't forget to refer some other source for Quant.
