Critiquing John Donne & Vidyapati In Devotional Poems  (Hard Bound, Dr. Rajiv Kumar Jha)

Man’s devotion to God has found expression in various ways and a variety of mediums. Vidyapati as the greatest poet of the Maithili language and literature is widely known as a devotional poet and his devotional songs and poems are sung in every nook and corner of Mithila. His undying supplications to his deities Shiva, Krishna and goddess Durga are still sung in reverence by the devouts during their worship. John Donne, the originator of metaphysical poetry in English literature, is also widely known throughout the English knowing world for his devotional or divine poems. The objective of the work is to present a comparative study of John Donne and Vidyapati as devotional poets and to point out the similarities of sentiments expressed in their major devotional poems despite linguistic and religious differences.
