Pray to God every morning so that your entire day passes smoothly, and meditate every day so that the day of those around you passes peacefully. True peace is the only complete rest. The rest of Kumbhakarna is laziness, the rest of Ravana is preparation for war, but the rest of Ram is samadhi. True rest is the Ram within, the self-experience that manifests within you. When we learn to rest with open eyes and become established in self-experience, it is called the rest of Avatara-Moun, the destination of silence.
To keep your eyes always open, learn the art of closing your eyes for a while. Every night, people close their eyes, but that is not an art. The art of closing your eyes is called meditation—true rest.
In trying to open the eyes of others, people become blind. To open the inner eyes, that is, to restore the vision of the blind of knowledge, initiation into meditation—self-vision is necessary. To see the self, to awaken the desire to be initiated into meditation, and to make meditation a part of your life, prepare to keep your outer eyes closed for some time, so that while reading, you enter into meditation, at least you do.
