There are number of lesions which are quite specific to the tongue. Many of these depend on the change in specialized epithelium covering of the tongue and in particular in the papillae. These structures appear to be particularly susceptible to change brought about by systemic abnormalities. We have attempted to write a simple, concise but comprehensive book on various changes in tongue, which will be beneficial to students and clinicians. The topic is wide and thousands of conditions fit into it. We have attempted to shortlist the most important ones with greater significance to dentistry and describe them to the best of our abilities. We have prepared newer tables to give a summary of the topic covered.
