Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? (English, Paperback, Dick Philip K.)
In a post-apocalyptic world, there is nothing more valuable or profitable than life, even artificial ones. The few survivors hold the chance to own an animal over all else, even if the animal is artificial. In this world, realistic simulacra are sold in a pet shop like no other, populated by horses, birds, cats, sheep and even humans. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is a cult science fiction classic by Philip K. Dick, one that inspired the cinematic experience that was Blade Runner.
Summary of the Book
Rick Deckard has a simple job, one that is as simple as jobs go in this dystopian world. He must “retire” six renegade Nexus-6 brain model androids. These androids house the most advanced brain model, but even that couldn’t be the sole cause of their rebellion. There is a man aiding them, a human of mediocre intelligence. What are John Isidore’s reasons for helping these androids? These creatures lack any sense of empathy. They exist solely to feed the egos of those humans who feel so highly of themselves that they would want to own another of their own kind. Mankind has walked far from its origins on Earth in this epic saga, but the road it has taken has brought it past oblivion, to a state where all life is valuable. Needless to say, that which can be valued, can be sold. What does it mean to be a human? What separates man from machine? This classic novel is one of the most famous science fiction titles of all time.
