In the last two decades, electronic resources have fascinated the academic
fraternity and thus gained acceptance and popularity. But at the same time,
some issues associated with electronic resources have posed several challenges
for library professionals regarding their management. From creation to use and
further preservation for future use, electronic resources bring with them certain
issues that were not encountered in the management of printed resources.
As such, the researcher thought to undertake a study to investigate and analyse
the practises and procedures followed by university libraries in dealing with
the management of print and electronic resources. The present book is the
outcome of the research entitled "Electronic Collection Management: A Study
of some University Libraries of J&K, Punjab, and Haryana" submitted to the
University of Jammu.
The book covered the status of print and electronic resources at selected
universities. It also covered important issues like collection development
policies (CDP), licensing, weeding, preservation, and other issues governing
electronic resources. In addition, it also contains the perspectives of teaching
fraternity and research scholars regarding different aspects of the use of
electronic resources and their impact on the use of print resources.
As such, the present monograph will be of immense help to library
professionals entrusted with collection management as well as to students of
BLISc and MLISc in their pursuit of study and research.
