His extensive interaction with the Coorg people led to the publication of 'An Elementary Grammar of the Coorg Language' in 1867, dedicated to Lewin Bentham Bowring Esq., then Commissioner of Mysore and Coorg. He also wrote 'A Manual of Coorg Civil Law' and investigated Dolmens in Coorg. Colepet, a town in South Kodagu, was named after him.
