Engineering Electromagnetic (Sie) (English, Book, Hayt William)
First published around five decades ago, Engineering Electromagnetics by William H. Hayt and John A. Buck is among the very few academic books that has stood the test of time. The book has been updated periodically to suit the needs of students pursuing electromagnetic education.
Summary Of The Book
Engineering Electromagnetics teaches fundamental concepts and problem solving from their theoretical conception to their practical realizations. Numerous analogies and illustrations are provided to aid the reader in grasping the concepts with ease.
The book lays emphasis on independent learning and this is facilitated by the inclusion of many problems and examples. Engineering Electromagnetics contains chapters on Vector Analysis, Columbus’ Law and Electric Field Intensity, Energy and Potential, Current and Conductors, Transmission Lines, Waveguide, and a host of other chapters on theories of electromagnetism. Included in this updated version are sections on micro strip line and transmission line losses in the chapters Waveguide and Transmission Lines respectively.
Engineering Electromagnetics comes with a CD that contains varied sets of animations that illustrate some of the concepts of electromagnetism. These animations are designed to help the reader build visual maps in his/her head to understand the concepts. This is an added advantage since students are known to grasp information more efficiently when aided by visual resources. The CD also presents to the reader an interactive mode of learning in the form of quizzes.
About The Authors
In a distinguished career spanning over many years, William H. Hayt (deceased) served as the professor and Head of the School of Electrical Engineering before retiring in 1986.
Hayt has co-authored several books on electrical engineering, which include Engineering Circuit Analysis and Problems and Solutions in Electromagnetics.
Hayt completed his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Purdue University and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois. He joined the faculty of Purdue University after having spent four years in the Electrical Engineering industry. A highly regarded academician, Hayt received numerous awards including the University’s Best Teacher award at Purdue.
A native of Los Angeles, John A. Buck is a professor of Electromagnetics and Optics and Photonics at Georgia Tech.
Dr. Buck has co-authored two books with Bill Hayt, the other one being Problems And Solutions In Electromagnetics, which released in 2010. He also authored the book Fundamentals Of Optical Fibres, which has been his only solo-authored book till date.
Apart from having authored a few books, Buck has been publishing papers on his research interests, which are Nonlinear Optics and Fibre Optical Communications periodically. Buck completed his B.S. in engineering and M.S in engineering from UCLA in 1975 and University of California at Berkeley in 1977 respectively. He earned his Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1982. His doctoral thesis is centered on non-linear optical four wave mixing. When not confined to the lab, Dr. Buck enjoys music, photography, and hiking.
