The purpose of this book is to provide essential knowledge of clinical biochemistry in an easily assimilable form. While it is aimed at the students of medicine at the preclinical phase where biochemistry forms one of the major subjects it would also be equally helpful to postqraduate science students in biochemistry. The emphasis in the book has been given not only on the principles and methodology of the biochemical parameters but also on clinical interpretations and role in health/disease. One of the major features of this book is the inclusion of problems/case-based biochemical discussions in relevant chapters. The book covers all aspects of practical biochemistry including qualitative and quantitative estimations of biochemical parameters analytes and enzymes vis-à-vis organ functions. Furthermore the chapters on molecular biology DNA-based diagnostic techniques along with radioimmunoassay and ELISA have been incorporated which would update the readers to the present-day advances.

Prof. Lalit M. Srivastavais Senior Consultant and Head of the Department of Biochemistry Sir Ganga Ram Hospital New Delhi. Formerly he was Professor and Head of the Department of Biochemistry All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi. Professor Srivastava has done extensive research work in the area of Cardiac Biochemistry Immunology and Molecular and Clinical Biochemistry and has set up and upgraded the clinical laboratories for specialized biochemical parameters at AIIMS and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital New DelhiProf. Srivastava is the recipient of several national and international awards/recognitions that include Dr. B.C. Roy National Award of Medical Council of India for development of speciality of Biochemistry Dr. Vishwanath Gold Medal for outstanding work in the area of Biomedical Sciences National Institute of Immunology Senior Scientist Oration Award of the Indian Immunology Society etc.

Dr. Nibhriti Das an Additional Professor in the Department of Biochemistry AIIMS New Delhi has extensive teaching experience of over a decade and had brought several innovations in the learning of Biochemistry at AllMS. She is an expert of problem-based learning. Dr. Das is an adjunct faculty of K.L. Wig Centre for Medical Education and Technology All MS. She has research experience in basic and clinical biochemistry molecular biology and immunology and has widely acclaimed research publications in the field of experimental research and medical educational research in the area of medical education.Prof. Subrata Sinha is Professor Department of Biochemistry at AIIMS New Delhi. After doing his MBBS and MD (Biochemistry) at AIIMS he did Ph.D. at the MRC Toxicology Unit U.K. He has done extensive research on the molecular biology of brain tumours and on recombinant antibody technology. Prof. Sinha was awarded the Swarnajayanti Fellowship of the Department of Science and Technology Government of India and is a member of number of national and international bodies.
