  • Description
The first in Ken Follett's bestselling Century Trilogy, Fall of Giants is a huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London. Their destiny is entangled with that of an ambitious young aide to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson and with two orphaned Russian brothers, whose plans to emigrate to America fall foul of war, conscription and revolution. In a plot of unfolding drama and intriguing complexity, Fall of Giants moves seamlessly from Washington to St Petersburg, from the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty.

    Masterpiece

Ken Follett has shown that he is indeed a master at telling stories. Its not easy when you have more than a dozen main characters and five parallel life to cover, but Follett does it with relative ease. For people who are not used to reading big volumes at one go, this is a book you can read and keep down only to pick up the next day with same excitement and the flow maintained.

    Good Book

Earlier great works like "Pillars of the Earth" and "World without Ends" prompted me to read this book and i was not disappointed. Interesting book slightly better than the other two novels because there is no Hero or Villain in this novel. Its relatively easy to grab the attention of audience with a good hero or devilish villain and mix a bit of revenge to get a popular money spinning story. But to write a novel like this, where there is no Hero or no Villain and still keep the readers atte...

To read it is to live it, and I just read the First World War.

This is by far the most in depth, complex and amazing book I have read, irrespective of any genre.

I always appreciate good character development in any book but Follett has taken it to a massive ship building level by not describing just one or two characters but by doing so for 5 separate families all the while keeping pre-war, war and post war scenarios and melodramas in the background so that the readers do not get bored, which I absolutely loved.

All the events that occur in the backgr...

    A good Book for one

Ken Follett has written one of his best books so far. He is well informed about the Russian Revolution and as well as World War 1.A good book to start with for a keen reader which might prove it to be a full thriller. The book is a good blend of history and fiction and has been one of my favorite books so far. With the effect of World War 1 on five families living in different countries, it tells us about the struggle, love and hardship they face in the war.
Even though written a great bo...

    About the quality

We all know how is the book , author ..one single word Excellent!! I would not go into detail of that, because lot of people have already reviewed this novel.

I am a collector of good novels, I inherited/received lot of books from d published as early as 1958.

If you browse this item, you can in third of the price of this book, but still I went for this, anticipating, since this is an epic novel, I need to preserve this, hence I chose this imported edition. But I did not find any difference...

    Spell bounding!!

Ken Follet has written yet another epic revealing the lives of certain families of US,UK,Germany & Russia."FALL OF GIANTS" is the first book of "THE CENTURY" triology. The story line is serene. once you start the book interest starts escalating when love, hate, hierarchy, war, politics run simultaneously and the dormant status of women in society.
As the world war begins the lives of each and every country is drastically affected. It tells about the revolution throughout the world.
    In short, i f...
