Fight Club (1999) was directed by David Fincher and is based on a novel of the same name authored by Chuck Palahniuk. It stars Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, and Helena Bonham Carter and follows the theme of masculine identity.
The movie starts out with a voiceover, where the narrator (Edward Norton) suffers from insomnia, and the doctor advises him to attend a support group. He attends a group for testicular cancer victims, and impersonates a cancer patient. Eventually, by faking illness, he starts enjoying attending all sorts of support groups and moves on to participating in more of them. Interestingly, his insomnia gets cured in the process. One day, after coming back from a business trip, he finds his apartment sabotaged in an explosion. Due to this, he moves in with Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), his friend from the flight. Intriguing as it seems, the narrator and Tyler start engaging in frivolous bar fights, which later on moves into the basement of the apartment, where they officially start a fight club.
Subsequently, Marla (Helena Bonham Carter), the narrator's friend from the support group, asks for his help, but Tyler helps her instead. Soon, Tyler and Marla start a relationship, and the recreational Fight Club starts growing exponentially. Under Tyler's leadership, the club undergoes a lot of unethical changes, and the narrator tries to shut down the organisation. Hell breaks loose when the fight club becomes an addiction, and everything in their path starts disintegrating.
