The first part of this monograph by Prof Dr Madhav D. Thatte describes the inception of the “Life Principle” and the amazing mechanism of evolution of life corroborated convincingly with the principles of physics, chemistry, biology and philosophy. Instead of the older commonly used term “Homeostasis”, introduction of new fundamental concepts of “Homeodynamics and External Milieu Exterieur and Internal Milieu Exterieur and Internal Milieu Interieur” dividing the Internal Homeodynamics of a Triploblastic animal in two parts (internal milieu exterieur and {internal} milieu interieur) are reflective of the lateral and logical thinking of the author. The subsequent chapters on the way the kidney evolved and the intricate and self correcting mechanisms it employs is the "tour de force" of this book. The later part is dedicated to elaboration of clinical implications like Fluid-Electrolyte, Acid-Base Balance and Circulatory Shock; supported by photographs, line diagrams, flow charts and the description of 20 clinical pearls! The author has voyaged through this with superb clarity and yet simplification. This monograph is an intellectually stimulating study for medical students, academic mentors, surgeons, physicians, intensivists, scientists, biomedical researchers and philosophers.
