Food Security Management at Rural Level in Sikkim  (English, Paperback, Bitu Subba)

The state of Sikkim mostly comprises of rural area which became the first organic state of India especially in the field of horticulture. At the same time, it lagged behind in traditional crop cultivation like rice which has been the major staple diet of the Sikkimese people. It extensively relies on Centre Govt. to fulfil its requirement. Thus, the present study focuses on the food security scenario of the state by understanding the agricultural status, central and state food policies, rural programme and its rural structure. It has tried to reveal the ground reality based on empirical evidences which are primary in nature. So, in order to overcome such limitations, it suggest and recommends effective rural framework which addresses food policy and rural governance leading to sustainable development of village and its people through strengthening rural governance, resource awareness and asset creation, women empowerment, identification of problems and implementing adequate solutions. Thus, creating an environment where the mass are not merely beneficiaries but also responsible citizen and secondary stake holders to be more accountable and transparent. It will be of much useful to those who are interested to look at issues from the people perspectives.
