The aim of this text book is to present, in a lucid way, and explain the basics of the mostly used programming language FORTRAN along with its numerical applications, primarily in chemistry. The first part focuses on the extensive discussions on the language itself and the related syntax along with various examples. Some simple programs or program segments have been written that help the readers to learn how to use the syntax in writing FORTRAN codes. In the second part, we have introduced the numerical methods and its application in chemistry. After a short discussions on the methods we have written complete programs and commented on how they can be applied to solve problems of chemical interest. This book covers the recent CBCS undergraduate syllabus for chemistry particularly the Discipline Specific Elective (DSE) and the core physical chemistry papers. This is also helpful for students pursuing their Master programs and also for the competitive examinations. *** Subhasree Ghosh Assistant Professor Department of Chemistry Serampore College, West Bengal, India. *** Nabakumar Bera Assistant Professor (WBES) Department of Chemistry Jhargarm Raj College West Bengal, India. *** Paulami Ghosh Senior Research Fellow, School of Chemical Sciences Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, 2A and 2B Raja S.
